Work Arrangement: Hybrid or remote for the right candidate; site travel required

Wage: $130,000

Prerequisites

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Research, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation software, discrete-event simulation, systems modeling, or industrial engineering analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate operational challenges into structured models and actionable recommendations.
  • Experience analyzing material flow, process capacity, throughput, resource utilization, bottlenecks, or operational performance.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and the ability to work with operational data, engineering inputs, assumptions, and performance metrics.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings in practical business terms.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, establish priorities, and deliver results with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to sites in the United States and Canada.
  • No criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, automotive logistics, material handling, or supply-chain operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Autodesk Flex Sim or comparable discrete-event simulation software.
  • Experience modeling warehouse operations, production systems, dock-to-dock material movement, internal logistics, or distribution processes.
  • Familiarity with warehouse automation, robotics, conveyors, automated storage systems, AGVs, or AMRs.
  • Experience supporting capital investment analysis, engineering quotations, new-business proposals, or solution design.
  • Knowledge of CAD layouts, facility planning, industrial engineering methods, and process optimization.
  • Experience with digital twin methodologies, scenario analysis, model validation, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with Excel and, ideally, complementary analytical tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, or similar technologies.

General Responsibilities

New Business, Quotation & Solution Development

  • Support new-business opportunities by developing simulation-based solutions for material movement, warehouse operations, logistics networks, and automation systems.
  • Translate customer requirements, operational data, facility layouts, and process assumptions into simulation models that support engineering and commercial quotations.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions before commitments are made, identifying capacity constraints, bottlenecks, resource requirements, implementation risks, and potential cost savings.
  • Work with commercial, engineering, operations, and project teams to assess alternative solutions and support accurate, competitive, and defensible quotations.
  • Provide objective, quantitative analysis to support investment decisions, solution selection, and customer presentations.
  • Help identify opportunities where simulation can improve our ability to compete, differentiate our solutions, and reduce commercial risk.

Current Business & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze existing operations to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, underutilized resources, and opportunities to improve material flow.
  • Build models of current-state operations and develop future-state scenarios to evaluate proposed changes before implementation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives involving labor productivity, equipment utilization, dock operations, warehouse capacity, transportation interfaces, and material replenishment.
  • Quantify expected operational and financial benefits, establish performance baselines, and support post-implementation validation.
  • Partner with site teams to translate simulation results into executable improvement plans.
  • Use actual operating data to validate models, refine assumptions, and continuously improve their accuracy and usefulness.

Automation & Technology Integration

  • Work with automation and material-handling technologies, potentially including conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems, autonomous mobile robots, automated guided vehicles, and warehouse execution or control systems.
  • Evaluate how automation concepts interact with labor, equipment, facility layouts, inventory flows, and operating processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, systems integration, operations, and technology partners to ensure that modeled solutions reflect practical implementation requirements.
  • Explore opportunities to connect simulation models with operational data, engineering design tools, and emerging digital twin technologies.

Direct Responsibilities

Digital Twin Development & Simulation

  • Develop and maintain digital twin models of warehouses, manufacturing facilities, logistics networks, and material-handling systems.
  • Use discrete-event simulation and related engineering tools to model material movement, process flows, resource utilization, throughput, capacity, and operating constraints.
  • Evaluate warehouse layouts, dock-to-dock material movement, storage strategies, equipment requirements, automation concepts, and logistics operating models.
  • Develop realistic scenarios that account for demand variability, cycle times, labor availability, equipment performance, congestion, downtime, and operational constraints.
  • Compare alternative concepts and quantify their impacts on productivity, cost, capacity, service, space, and operational risk.
  • Establish repeatable modeling methodologies, assumptions, data standards, and validation processes.

Capability Development & Strategic Execution

  • Help establish simulation as a repeatable engineering and business capability rather than a one-off analytical exercise.
  • Identify appropriate software, modeling approaches, data requirements, and opportunities to expand our use of digital twins.
  • Develop reusable model components, templates, analytical methods, and reporting standards.
  • Present technical findings and business implications to stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
  • Take ownership of assignments from initial problem definition through modeling, recommendations, implementation support, and results validation.
  • Travel to company and customer sites throughout the United States and Canada to collect information, validate assumptions, work with local teams, and support implementation as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned
